Electrical & Lighting Upgrades in St. Pete & Tampa Bay

Electrical and lighting, fully permitted

Ethicore upgrades panels, rewires older homes, and designs layered lighting with recessed, pendant, and under-cabinet fixtures on dimmers across St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay. We also install EV chargers, generator connections, and whole-home surge protection, and we pull the permits and schedule the inspections the work requires.

What happens between the panel and the dimmer

Load calculation and a lighting layout

We start at the panel, checking its capacity and condition and whether it is one of the older types insurers flag, then run a load calculation for what you want to add: a kitchen, an EV charger, a pool heater, or a generator. Next comes the lighting plan, drawn room by room in layers: recessed or surface fixtures for general light, under-cabinet and pendant lights for tasks, and accent lights for art and architecture. We mark switch and dimmer locations, choose color temperatures, and price fixtures before any wall is opened.

Wiring runs while the walls are open

Work follows the permit. If the panel or service is being upgraded, we coordinate the shutoff and reconnection with the utility and tell you in advance when the power will be out. New circuits, boxes, and cable are run during rough-in, with dedicated circuits where appliances, chargers, and equipment need them. The building department inspects the rough-in before insulation and drywall go up. Once the walls are finished, the electricians trim out: devices, dimmers, fixtures, surge protection at the panel, and the EV charger or generator transfer switch.

Every circuit labeled and every dimmer set

Before handover, every circuit is tested and labeled at the panel, GFCI and AFCI protection is checked, and dimmers are matched to their fixtures and adjusted so lights fade down without flicker or buzz. We come back after dark to aim adjustable fixtures and set any lighting scenes with you. The final inspection is closed out, and you receive the panel schedule, a fixture and bulb list, and the manuals for the charger, generator, and surge device, so future work starts from an accurate record.

The lighting plan

Light drawn in layers, room by room

Each room gets more than one kind of light, drawn on the plan with its switches and priced before any wall is opened.

General
Recessed or surface fixtures that light the whole room, so a single ceiling fixture isn’t doing all the work.
Task
Under-cabinet and pendant lights over counters and islands, so prep areas aren’t left in shadow.
Accent
Adjustable fixtures for art and architecture, aimed with you after dark once the room is finished.
Color temperature
Chosen room by room during planning, before fixtures are priced and ordered.
Dimmers
Matched to their fixtures and adjusted so lights fade down without flicker or buzz.
Switches and scenes
Switch and dimmer locations marked on the drawings, and lighting scenes set with you at handover.

The wiring decides how the light behaves

Most lighting complaints trace back to wiring: dimmers that flicker, circuits that trip when two appliances run, or one ceiling fixture lighting a whole room. Older Florida homes can add an undersized panel or aluminum branch wiring to the list, which also matters for insurance. A load calculation, the right protection, and a layered lighting plan make the house safer and more comfortable to live in. Electrical work is quoted to your panel, wiring, and fixture plan after an on-site assessment, so the price matches the real scope.

FAQ

Questions about electrical and lighting work

Panel and service upgrades are done under a permit, and we pull it for you. We run a load calculation first so the new panel is sized for what you plan to add, then coordinate the shutoff and reconnection with the utility and tell you in advance when the power will be out. The building department inspects the work, and we follow the permit until the final inspection is closed.

It can. Some older panel types are ones insurers flag, and an undersized panel or aluminum branch wiring in an older Tampa Bay home can also matter for insurance. We check the panel’s type, capacity, and condition during the on-site assessment, tell you what we find, and price what is worth fixing. The closed inspection and updated panel schedule are useful records when you insure, refinance, or sell.

Yes. We install EV chargers, generator connections with a transfer switch, and whole-home surge protection at the panel. Before adding any of them, we run a load calculation to confirm the panel can carry the new demand alongside everything else in the house, and dedicated circuits are run wherever a charger or piece of equipment needs one. The work is permitted and inspected, and you receive the manuals with your records.

Electrical work is quoted after an on-site assessment, based on your panel, the existing wiring, and the fixture plan, so the price reflects the real scope. Fixtures are chosen and priced in the lighting plan before any wall is opened. If opening a wall turns up something that needs replacing, your project manager explains the options and cost, and the extra work goes ahead only after you approve a change order.

You receive the panel schedule with every circuit tested and labeled, a fixture and bulb list, and the manuals for any EV charger, generator connection, or surge device we installed. The final inspection is closed out before handover. Those records mean the next electrician starts from an accurate picture instead of guessing, and they help when you insure, refinance, or sell the house.
