Flooring Installation in St. Pete & Tampa Bay

Flooring built for Florida slabs

Ethicore installs hardwood, engineered wood, porcelain tile, and vinyl plank floors across St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay, room by room or through the whole house. We test the slab for moisture, flatten the subfloor, and plan every transition before the first board or tile goes down, so the floor stays flat, tight, and quiet underfoot.

Our flooring process

Chosen room by room, laid dead flat

Samples, moisture readings, and a layout

We start with how each room is used: whether pets, sand, or water will reach it, how much sun comes through the windows, and where the floor meets tile, stairs, or other rooms. Then we help you choose between hardwood, engineered wood, porcelain, and vinyl plank, looking at samples in the room itself. We measure, take moisture and flatness readings on the slab or subfloor, and plan layout direction, transitions, and door clearances, plus any sound underlayment your condo association requires.

The slab gets the most attention

Most homes here sit on a concrete slab, so preparation starts there: old flooring and adhesive come up, high spots are ground down, low spots are filled with self-leveler, and moisture readings decide which vapor barrier or adhesive the floor needs. Wood and engineered planks acclimate in the house with the air conditioning running. Tile is set with full mortar coverage, leveling clips, and movement joints, wood is glued or floated to the manufacturer’s instructions, and baseboards and transitions go back on last.

Sealed, cleaned, and ready for furniture

Site-finished wood gets its final coats, grout is cleaned and sealed where the product calls for it, and the floor is cleaned of haze and dust. Then we walk it with you, checking for lippage between tiles, gaps or crowned boards, hollow spots, and marks left by other trades. You receive a care sheet for your specific floor, the leftover boxes set aside for future repairs, and the manufacturer’s warranty details, so the floor can be maintained the way it was meant to be.

What a Florida slab asks of a floor

Most homes here sit on concrete in a humid climate. Each step below answers one of those conditions before the first board or tile goes down.

  1. Moisture read first

When a floor fails, an untested slab is often the cause. We take moisture readings before installation, and they decide which vapor barrier or adhesive your floor goes down with.

  2. Flattened, not covered up

Old flooring and adhesive come up, high spots are ground down, and low spots are filled with self-leveler. A dip left in the slab tends to show up later as hollow spots or uneven tile edges.

  3. Acclimated with the AC on

Wood and engineered planks sit in the house with the air conditioning running before installation, so they adjust to the humidity they will live in rather than moving after they’re down.

  4. Quiet floors for condos

Many condo associations require sound underlayment under new floors, along with rules on work hours and elevator use. We gather those rules early and build them into the plan and the approval package.

Fixing a floor means emptying the room

Floors are hard to redo: replacing one means moving every piece of furniture, pulling baseboards, and often trimming doors. When a floor fails, the cause is usually underneath, like a slab that was never moisture tested, a dip that wasn’t leveled, or wood laid before it acclimated, and in Florida’s humidity those problems surface sooner. Flooring is quoted to your rooms, the material you choose, and the prep your slab or subfloor needs, so you know the full cost before anything is torn out.

FAQ

Questions about flooring installation

More on permits, timelines, pricing, and aftercare is on our full FAQ page.

It depends on the room. We start with how each space is used: whether pets, sand, or water will reach it, how much sun comes through the windows, and where the floor meets tile, stairs, or another room. Then we compare hardwood, engineered wood, porcelain tile, and vinyl plank using samples laid in the room itself, so you see each one in your own light.

Yes. We install floors room by room or through the whole house, and new flooring on its own is one of the smaller projects we take on. Where the new floor meets an existing one, tile, or stairs, we plan the transition and check door clearances before work starts. Flooring is quoted to your rooms, the material you choose, and the prep your slab or subfloor needs.

For a single room, many homeowners stay. We seal the work area off from the rest of the house and protect the finished spaces. The rooms getting new floors do need to be emptied, since the baseboards come off and the old flooring and adhesive come up before the slab is prepared, and the baseboards and transitions go back on last.

It starts with a flat slab, then the setting. Each tile is set with full mortar coverage, leveling clips keep neighboring edges even, and movement joints are built into the layout. At the final walkthrough, we check for lippage, where one tile edge sits higher than the next, and for hollow spots, and grout is cleaned and sealed where the product calls for it.

A care sheet written for your specific floor, the manufacturer’s warranty details, and the leftover boxes set aside for future repairs, so a damaged board or tile can be replaced with a match. Before that, we walk the floor with you, checking for gaps, crowned boards, and marks left by other trades, and site-finished wood gets its final coats before the floor is cleaned of haze and dust.
